In addition to the full range of RYA courses Duck-2-Water specialise in providing RYA own boat tuition, whether it is a Motor Cruiser Training, Powerboat Training or RIB Training. We provide a highly personalised service to you and design and execute a course tailored to meet your specific requirements. So, whether you are new to power boating or an existing owner who just wishes to brush up on their close quarters manoeuvring or navigation, we can provide an appropriate course for you. We can also provide preparation courses for those who are planning to attend an RYA training course or assessment.
Duck-2-Water RYA Instructors
Our Skippers are selected not just on their instructional ability to deliver RYA Courses and boat handling skills, but also their professionalism and ability to create a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment. All our instructors have been boating for in excess of 10 years and are professionally qualified to teach RYA training courses.
We provide a free consultancy service to all Duck-2-Water students to provide advice and guidance as to the recommended safety equipment, both for individuals and the boat.
Should you require a Sea School boat to be provided for an RYA training course, this can be provided by Duck-2-Water at it’s base on the Solent at Ocean Village Marina, Southampton, Hampshire.
RYA VHF Radio Courses
VHF Radio courses are essential for everyone aged 16 or older who wishes to control the operation of a VHF Radio on any British vessel voluntarily fitted with a VHF Radio or VHF DSC Radio! A VHF is an essential item of safety kit and thus taking a VHF radio course to ensure that you know how to use it is key.
RYA First Aid Course
RYA First aid and resuscitation techniques for yachtsmen, including a knowledge of the treatment for hypothermia.
RYA Radar Courses
This one day marine radar course is increasingly popular for both sailing yachts and powerboats. Marine Radar is an invaluable aid for navigation and collision avoidance and it is more useful in the hands of a knowledgeable operator.
RYA Day Skipper Theory Course
The course is equally applicable for sail or power boaters and suits those keen to spend a good amount of time developing their theoretical knowledge away from the water, either before or after attending a Day Skipper Practical Course.
RYA Diesel Engine Course
Mechanical failure is the main cause of lifeboat callouts to yachts and powerboats. This one day RYA Marine Diesel Engine course includes basic diesel engine maintenance and diesel engine care, which will prevent most cases of diesel engine failure.
RYA Sea Survival Course
This one day sea survival course prepares you to stay alive in an emergency. It will show you how to make the best use of a life raft and you will learn some basic sea survival techniques.
RYA Yachtmaster Theory
This is a course for more experienced skippers which takes them up to the theory knowledge required for Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Practical Examination.
Recognised by the RYA
Duck-2-Water RYA Sea School are formally recognised by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) for RYA Courses and are one of their Solent based RYA Training Centres. The RYA is the national organisation representing the interests of everyone who goes boating for pleasure.
In addition, Duck-2-Water is a RYA Recognised Training Centre, which means you can expect to be taught by an experienced, RYA qualified instructor, to a syllabus and standards laid down nationally by the RYA. Where relevant, the course syllabus and standards will also have been agreed with appropriate certifying bodies such as the MCA (Marine and Coastguard Agency) and Ofcom (formerley the Radiocommunications Agency).
